In Victoria (and other states) people with disabilities have the option and are strongly encouraged to go through an occupational therapist driver assessor in order to gain their probationary licence. They (the authorities) reccomend going for an automatic transmission licence this will allow you to drive any car with automatic transmission and allow you to get from point A to point B without the added complications of gears and clutch. It will be a permanent condition unless you sit another OT test The process involves a driving test with the OT assessor having knowledge of and understanding about your Asperger's and able to give you feedback on your driving. Whilst in the learner permit or before you get a learner permit it is strongly advised you get a medical report filled out Sunshine OT will send you this.
The first step is to get lessons here are two disability specific driver instructors covering the Western suburbs.
